In central Illinois is a small village known as Tremont. It is positioned in Tazewell County and located 15 miles south of Peoria, the 7th largest city in Illinois. Tremont had a population of approximately 2,156 people in 2016. Tremont is the 2nd largest village in Tazewell County.

A man named Chapman was the first European settler to establish himself in the area of modern-day Tremont. He arrived in the early 1800s. By the mid-1830s, other European settlers were living in Tremont and operating businesses. Tremont became incorporated in 1835.
