Morton is a small village in central Illinois. It is positioned at the junction of Interstate Highway 74 and Interstate Highway 155. Morton is in a region of the United States originally inhabited by Native American Indians. The village is named in honor of Governor Morton of Massachusetts, an antislavery politician. The first European inhabitants of Morton originated from Ohio and New York. Rapp Brick & Tiles Works was one of the first businesses to operate in Morton. It was opened in the late 1870s. By the 1950s, Morton was known as a successful village.
